The Handbook of Assessment

The meaning and purpose of Humak University of Applied Sciences’ (Humak) handbook of assessment is to bring forward the starting points of assessment, the different assessment procedures of study modules, and the request for rectification on assessments. Studies of language and interpretation are highlighted separately on assessment procedures since their assessment scale differs from those of other study units.

Assessment always relates to objectives and how they are reached. Assessment refers to comparing set goals to achieved results. Assessment is always dependent on a specific context and thus the purpose and meaning are situationally specified.

• ”Assessment is transparent, continuous, wide-ranging and able to develop reflection skills” (project eAMK)
• Coaching and guidance feedback of learning is given in the same environment where studies are based (e.g. Hoodle), this also refers to assessment of singular tasks which is given in the learning environment
• The overall grade of the study module is marked on Peppi as the grade for the study module in question. Cases where there is need to provide Peppi with more assessment information (e.g. how the task should be added to) are an exception.
• Peer review and feedback is done with the principles present in the assessment guidelines of each study module
• The same is done with self-assessment, where the assessment guidelines of each study module are applied.

The aim of this handbook is to create consistent assessment procedures to maintain high quality assessments and to ensure fairness and objectivity.

The instructions in the handbook will be applied to all training and degree programmes offered by Humak. The handbook sets out the possible exceptions and specific guidelines for the assessment in the various training and degree programmes at Humak.
